Mary Rogers, Piano Teacher and Performer, Victoria, BC

I am a BC Registered piano teacher with a cozy music studio in the Gordon Head/University of Victoria area. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of British Columbia and an Associate Diploma (ARCT) in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music Toronto. Please visit my about page to learn more about me and to find out where I had the honour of playing for HM Queen Elizabeth II!

Mary RogersMany of my students start piano lessons with me as young children, often choosing to work through the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum. Students may choose to take yearly RCM exams, or to just learn the piano for the enjoyment of it!

I firmly believe it is never too late to discover the joys of learning music through the piano and I enjoy sharing my love of music with more mature students as well. Research has repeatedly shown that learning a musical instrument lights up and strengthens your brain, whether you are 6 or 60 years young! I am especially proud of my “family friendly” fees, all of which are included on my piano lessons page.

My studio celebrates each teaching year with a year-end recital, a special opportunity for students to share a favourite piece of music. It is always fun to end the year with goodies and visiting! For me, there is truly no greater joy than sharing my love of music through teaching and performing. On my Victoria Piano Blog page you can see more about what my students and other musicians in the city are up to! And to get in touch with questions or to book a lesson, please visit my contact page.

Still wondering if my piano studio is right for you? Here’s a note from Kyla Ward, a parent of one of my students:

There are many reasons I would recommend Mary as a piano teacher.  She is kind, fun, patient, and curious.  Her piano students all demonstrate a musicality that goes beyond the notes on the page, which I believe is rooted in Mary’s deep love for making music come alive.  She has been a great ally for both my children – compassionate to their individual needs while holding out specific goals and levels of achievement that have grown them both as musicians.

More than any other commendation, this is the great testament I can offer: I NEVER nag my children about practicing or going to music lessons.  Under Mary’s teaching my children sense the great privilege and joy it is to play the piano.  They carry this value into their practicing and they always have looked forward to their weekly lessons – no small deal for teenagers.  Music fills our home, and for that, I am thankful.
